As early as 1996, Patagonia became one of the first brands in the world to use 100% organic cotton in all cotton products, abandoning the use of conventional cotton which requires a large amount of pesticides, fertilizers and water, and has since been committed to promoting the development of organic cotton and regenerative agriculture around the world. In 2019, Patagonia launched its “Regenerative Organic Certification” (ROC) program, which sets higher standards for regenerative organic agriculture, focusing on improving soil health, increasing biodiversity, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting fair trade and the livelihoods of farmers, and has since been working to expand the global regenerative organic cotton supply chain.
