IKEA NORDEN’s minimum length is only one of the space requirements a buyer should assess. A gateleg table needs a room plan for storage, ordinary use and the largest intended arrangement. This guide reads the UK birch NORDEN record, article 904.238.87, checked on 3 October 2026. It is a purchase-planning interpretation, not a furniture trial, assembly guide or structural approval.
Preserve the three documented lengths
The UK NORDEN specification gives minimum, listed and maximum lengths of 26, 89 and 152cm, with width 80cm and height 74cm. The page also describes six drawers. No exact update date was observed. These entries should not be replaced by the dimensions of the delivery packages or by another NORDEN finish’s record.
A compact storage dimension can be a useful starting point, but it is not evidence that the table’s largest arrangement fits the same room. Similarly, the maximum surface size does not describe how the room will function when the table is being stored.
Draw the room in three states
Our editorial method uses a separate sketch for each intended state. In the storage sketch, identify where the table remains and what other objects share that area. In the ordinary-use sketch, identify the people and objects expected around it. In the largest-use sketch, mark which nearby items would need to move.
This is a comparison of requirements, not an instruction for operating the leaves. A household expecting one arrangement most days and occasional larger use has a different purchasing question from someone who wants the full surface available continuously. Write the actual routine instead of treating flexibility as automatically valuable.
| Room state | Record before choosing | Unresolved question |
|---|---|---|
| Storage | Table location and surrounding objects | Can the intended storage area remain usable? |
| Ordinary use | Typical surface and seating arrangement | Is practical access available? |
| Largest use | Full planned room layout | What must move and where will it go? |
Include the drawers in the access plan
Drawers can be a reason to consider this specific table, but a drawer count is not a statement that every intended object fits. Name the objects that should remain nearby and check their actual storage requirements. Also describe when you need access: before a meal, during a task or while the table is in its storage position.
Keep that access question distinct from the tabletop dimensions. A buying guide cannot infer clearances for chairs, knees, drawer movement or walkways from five numbers alone. We have not measured these interactions or rated comfort and stability.
A useful offer check
Needs editor verification: the actual regional article, the planned room states, practical drawer access and the complete furniture arrangement. The page’s finish and article identity should stay with the dimensional record. No current price, delivery availability, durability verdict or review consensus is supplied.
Our conditional preference is to choose after all frequently used room states have been considered, rather than selecting solely by the smallest dimension. Other specific purchase decisions are available on the Best4World homepage. Room-fit screening remains separate from a tested-use verdict.
